Día de los Muertos WIPs 1-2

I’m fascinated by the Sugar Skull artwork I’ve seen for Día de los Muertos.  Here’s my first attempt at something different and colorful. Still a ways to go.

EDIT: November 2nd, 2011

More designs added, reworking the nose. More roses need to be added (which I’m already dreading). Can’t paint a rose to save my … anyway 🙂

Wow Michelle, it looks great. You paint so well with vivid colors, it totally fits your style, and I think you couldn’t have chosen a more fitting subject. Happy so see you playing with your art again! Flowers suck, don’t they? I hate still life!

Thanks Jess. The vivid colors of the sugar skull designs and Mexican influences of bold, bright colors is what made me want to paint this. I might even start a series because anything goes it seems. It’s liberating not having to make it look airbrush perfect, kwim? Yes, i’m not fond of trying to paint flowers, much less roses. And to think roses play a prominent role in these paintings. Looks like I better learn to like them, pronto, lol.
